A secret contract? Tonali committed to Newcastle until 2030 as new deal went unreported
Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has signed a contract extension with the club as secret deal is revealed.
The Italian international agreed a five-year deal with The Magpies when he signed from AC Milan, which was due to expire in 2028. Tonali was caught up in a gambling scandal and picked up a betting ban, which was a major blow for the side.0
However, The Telegraph and the Daily Mail have now reported that he extended his contract by 12 months back in 2023, to show his appreciation for Newcastle standing by him during the scandal which left him out of action for over a year.0
Tonali volunteered to take a pay cut during the ban as he wasn’t able to play at the time, in what was a generous gesture that the club appreciated. His place under manager Eddie Howe has been growing in recent months as he proves his worth to the side, who are performing well domestically and amongst the European elite.0
Howe recently praised the experienced playmaker, whose future is now locked down at the side after many feared he may be drawn away as he entered the final few years of his contract.0
"Technically, he is an outstanding player. To see that technical ability, we want him to get the ball more. Playing as a No 8 we need more of a goal threat too."0
