Official Announcement: Inter Miami CF Extends Lionel Messi’s Contract Until 2028
Inter Miami CF has officially announced that the club has reached an agreement with its captain — Argentine superstar, eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, and World Cup champion Lionel Messi — on a contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2028 MLS season.
Messi said:
“I’m really happy to be able to stay here and continue being part of this project. What started as just a dream has now become a wonderful reality — being able to play here at Miami’s Freedom Park Stadium. Since the day I arrived in Miami, I’ve felt incredibly happy, so I’m truly delighted to keep going here.”
“We’re all very much looking forward to finally playing at Freedom Park in Miami. We can’t wait for the stadium to be completed — we’re eager to step onto the field in our new ‘home’ and feel the atmosphere there. We also hope that our fans will enjoy this amazing venue. Playing in such a magnificent and spectacular stadium will undoubtedly be something very special for all of us.”
Inter Miami CF Managing Owner Jorge Mas stated:
“We promised our fans that we would dream big and work tirelessly to build an iconic club — one that represents the passion, effort, and dedication of those who came before us. A club that makes Miami a city built on dreams. Messi’s extension with us through 2028 is truly a tribute to this incredible city. We look forward to writing the next chapter together at Freedom Park. Let’s continue forward as one — chasing our dreams together.”
Inter Miami CF co-owner David Beckham added:
“Our goal has always been to bring the best players to Inter Miami and to this city — and we’ve achieved that. We’ve brought the greatest player of all time to Miami. This not only reflects our commitment to the city, but also Messi’s devotion to Miami, to the club, and to the beautiful game itself. His passion and hunger to win remain as strong as ever. As owners, we feel incredibly fortunate to have a player who loves football so deeply, who has contributed so much to the sport, and who continues to inspire young players around the world.”
