New Jersey's Division of Gaming Enforcement recently released data for January 2026, showing that the total gaming revenue for the state reached $586.4 million, a 5.9% increase year-over-year. The main driver of this growth was online gaming (iGaming), which saw a revenue jump of 16.8% to $258.9 million. Although it did not break the record set in December of the previous year, it was close to the peak. Simply put, while physical casinos are slowly climbing, online casinos are already running. Sports betting revenue saw a slight decline, but online platforms still dominate. Want to know the latest trends in the mature US gaming market?

First, iGaming: Approaching the historical peak, poker lagging behind

January's total iGaming revenue was $258.9 million, up 16.8% year-over-year, slightly below December's historical peak of $273.2 million. Among them:

Online slots and table games contributed $256.3 million, up 17.1%

Online poker revenue was $2.6 million, down 2.2%

Operator rankings (by revenue):

FanDuel/Golden Nugget: $58.9 million (+18.5%)

DraftKings/Resorts World: $48.6 million (+10.3%)

BetMGM/Borgata: $33.8 million (+17.3%)

Second, Sports Betting: Betting volume declines, but hold percentage remains at 11%

January sports betting revenue was $114.2 million, down 6.5% year-over-year. Among them:

Online revenue was $112.3 million (-5.3%)

Physical retail revenue was $1.9 million (-47.1%)

Total betting volume was $1.03 billion, down 10.4% year-over-year, but the statewide hold percentage still maintained at 11.04%. Among online platforms:

FanDuel/Meadowlands: $104.6 million (+1.7%)

DraftKings/Resorts World: $79.2 million (-0.6%)

BetMGM/Borgata: $22.9 million (+112.6%)

New Jersey does not disclose individual operator betting volumes, so specific hold percentages cannot be calculated.

Third, Physical Casinos: Slight increase of 1.6%, overshadowed by online

The nine physical casinos had a total revenue of $213.3 million, up 1.6% year-over-year. Among them:

Slot machine revenue was $150.6 million (+3.5%)

Table game revenue was $62.7 million (-2.9%)

Once a core source of revenue, now lagging behind iGaming in both scale and growth rate.

Fourth, Tax Contributions: Online supports the treasury

January's total gaming tax revenue for the state was $97.1 million, among which:

iGaming contributed $57.4 million

Sports betting contributed $23.9 million

Physical casinos contributed $15.7 million

The rapid growth of the online segment continues to inject significant revenue into the state treasury.
