Marc Anthony Speaks Out on Beckham Family Rift:
Marc Anthony is distancing himself from the controversy surrounding the Beckham family—even as his name remains entangled in one of the most painful moments of their public fallout.
Breaking his silence after being mentioned in Brooklyn Beckham's explosive statement last month, the Grammy-winning singer pushed back on the version of events now circulating and insisted the public narrative does not reflect what truly happened.
"I have nothing to say about what's happening with the family," Anthony, 57, told The Hollywood Reporter. "They're a wonderful, wonderful family. I've known them since before the kids were born. I'm godfather to Cruz. I'm really close to the family."
Anthony declined to address specific allegations directly, though his discomfort with the current storyline was clear.
"But I have nothing to say about what happened there," he added. "It's extremely unfortunate how it's playing out—but [how it's playing out] is hardly the truth."
The singer was drawn into the dispute after Brooklyn publicly accused his parents of overstepping during his April 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz Beckham—an event where Anthony performed.
What was once remembered as a star-studded celebration has since become central to Brooklyn's decision to sever ties with his family.
In a January 21 statement shared via Instagram Stories, Brooklyn described the wedding as an experience that left him humiliated rather than honoured. He claimed his mother, Victoria Beckham, took over what was meant to be his first dance with his wife.
"My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song," Brooklyn wrote.
"In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life."
"We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment."
Additional context emerged later in January, when wedding DJ Fat Tony appeared on the UK's This Morning programme.
While dismissing exaggerated claims, Tony confirmed the sequence of events caused noticeable tension.
"There was no slut-dropping, there was no black PVC catsuit, there was no Spice Girl action," Tony said. "What it was [and] why I said it was inappropriate, as well, was because ... it was the timing."
According to Tony, Anthony was in the middle of his performance when Brooklyn was invited onstage—at a moment when guests anticipated Nicola would join him for their first dance.
"Marc Anthony was performing onstage. He then called Brooklyn onto the stage [who] went onto the stage where everyone's expecting it to be Nicola to go up and do the first dance, then Marc Anthony asks ‘the most beautifulest woman in the room' to come to the stage and then he says, ‘Victoria,'" Tony explained.
The emotional fallout was immediate, the DJ said.
Brooklyn appeared "devastated," according to Tony, while Nicola, 31, exited the venue "crying her eyes out."
"Brooklyn's stuck there onstage, and then they do this dance," Tony continued. "Marc Anthony's, like, ‘Put your hands on your mother's hips,' and it was a Latin thing. The whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room."
